Ok, you may have guessed already that I am not a big fan of synthetic drugs.
I realize they are very important for many people to manage their illness and they save lives everyday.
On the other hand, synthetic drugs destroy lives and are being developed to take advantage of and monetize off of
folks that are vulnerable, in pain, and suffering.
Drugs being glamorized on TV and held out there like glitter dust sprinkled on whatever it is that is ailing them.
The problem is that in most cases these drugs are nothing more than pretty packaged sheep in wolves clothing.
Causing more health problems, side effects, dependence, and doing nothing more than masking the problem and
actually adding more crap to it!
There is a time and place for synthetic drugs but in my opinion, they should be saved for emergency use or when
lifestyle, nutrition, and plant medicine are ineffective.
So first of all before jumping to a synthetic drug or herbal supplement you should consider the following things:
Start moving(get your ass off of the couch and away from the social media)
Expose yourself to sun, fresh air, and nature every day
Strengthen your body (work out, exercise, play hard)
Nourish your spirit and decrease stress
Not much more to say
So let’s talk about Alternative Herbal Medicines and the Advantages and Disadvantages
Alternative herbal medicines are starting to gain serious consideration as a solution to address the growing number of health-related concerns today.
Rather than making use of synthetic medications commonly prescribed by their doctors, smart consumers today are looking for an alternative solution to address their health problems without having to dish out hundreds of dollars for treatment, as well as potential allergic reactions to the chemicals used on synthetic products.
Before starting out on your journey towards alternative healing, it would be best to know the advantages and disadvantages of herbal medicines to ensure that you are getting your money’s worth in addressing your health-related concerns as well as ensuring safety for yourself and your family.
The Advantages of Using Alternative Herbal Medications
Advantage 1 – Whole plant medicine works synergistically
Multiple compounds in the plant work synergistically to produce better results in most cases.
This occurs because some of the various compounds within the plant are different while others are similar. These compounds have an effect called homeostasis which means they are working to do what the body needs at the time.
f you check out the labels of quality herbal products, you will see that they are mostly from the extracts of plants. No synthetic chemicals and formulas are needed to complete the medicine. And when shopping for products you want to make sure they are high quality with 3rd party testing and do not contain those ingredients.
Advantage 2 – Cost-Effective Solution
One of the advantages of herbal products is their price. They are a lot cheaper compared to synthetic medicines commonly prescribed by doctors today. In fact, low-budget consumers are opting for this solution to their health problems in order to get as much savings as they can get to address their health-related concerns.
The reason why alternative herbal medicines are cheaper is because of the ingredients used in them. No expensive chemicals are used in the formulation of the medicine and the ingredients can be grown almost anywhere under the right conditions.
No patents and no big companies locking down the rights of consumers to obtain the treatment they are entitled to.
|Medication and Dose||Price in the US||Price in Canada|
|Brilinta 90 mg||$5.99 per pill||$1.67 per pill|
|Gilenya 0.5 mg||$265.03 per capsule||$91.30 per capsule|
|Humalog Insulin 100 units/ml||$26.14 per ml||$2.78 per ml|
|Pradaxa 150 mg||$6.92 per capsule||$1.78 per capsule|
|Spiriva 18 mcg||$13.72 per capsule||$1.91 per capsule|
|Xarelto 20 mg||$14.37 per pill||$3.07 per pill|

Advantage 3 – Less Chance for Allergic Reactions
Pharmaceutical research will identify a single compound in a plant and discard the rest.
The reason for this is to simplify and speed up the process.
A single compound can be manufactured in standardized, pure dosages which simplifies clinical trials.
Synthetic drugs have one effect and push the reaction of the body to do one thing.
This usually has the opposite effect on another body system and throws the body out of sync.
This now creates a new issue in the form of a side effect or a new condition which warrants a new therapy.
This usually means the need for a different medication to address the new symptom.
And then this goes on and on creating even more medical issues.
All benefiting Big Pharma I might add!
Medical errors are now listed as the 3rd leading cause of death in the world.
Herbs have been used for the last 60,000 years. How often to do you hear about an overdose or medical error from an herb?
The Disadvantages Of Using Herbal Medicines
Disadvantage 1 – Lack of Governance
The FDA does monitor herbal supplements for safety and quality but only as a dietary supplement which means they do not have to undergo the same strict testing processes as synthetic drugs do.
Disadvantage 2 – Lack of Education
Just because an herb is natural does not mean it is safe.
There are very potent herbs and plants that can be deadly.
When used with certain prescriptions, over the counter medications or supplements they can cause dangerous side effects and complications.
Proper formulation and dosage is necessary for safe use.
Consumers are urged to follow the dosage indicated on the label of the herbal medicine and to consult a health expert, reputable herbalist, or your family doctor to safely determine the proper usage of the product.
Disadvantage 3 – Risk of Side Effects, Complications, and Contraindications
Just like some synthetic medication, there are some herbal supplements that should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding moms, children, or the elderly.
Some supplements also need to be avoided before surgery or when taking other medications.
Knowledge = Power
The Herbal Academy has multiple courses and workshops available.
Knowledge is power and gives us the ability to be self-reliant and not dependent on big greedy corporations that take advantage of our naivety and destroy lives.
Safety Tips When Using Herbal Supplements.
- Research the herbal supplement before you take it. Here are some reputable sites.
- Follow the supplement instructions- more does not equate better.
- Take only one new supplement at a time and document the name, dose, time, and any symptoms. If it is not helping then don’t continue taking it.
- Make sure you are shopping from a reputable company that has been tested by independent 3rd party testers like ConsumerLab.com or U.S. Pharmacopeia Convention (USP).
Mother Earth News did a review and named these 5 companies as reputable.
iHerb has over 30,000 products and works with these reputable companies and many others. I love that there is flat $4 fee for any orders under $20 and FREE for any orders over $20 and they offer a Loyalty program, rewards program, and have great specials.
